SAN JOSE, Calif. - The California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) today released a Request forQualifications (RFQ) for Environmental and Engineering Services for the San Francisco to San Jose ProjectSection and the San Jose to Merced Project Section of the high-speed rail program. The Authority is seeking aqualified firm to provide the professional services required for the completion of the environmentaldocumentation and preliminary engineering for these sections. The RFQ comes as the Authority continues toadvance the nation’s first high-speed rail system.
The Authority has already begun moving the high-speed rail program forward in the Northern California regionthrough a partnership with Caltrain which will electrify Caltrain’s 51-mile rail commuter corridor that stretchesfrom downtown San Francisco to San Jose’s Diridon Station. The Authority is providing $705 million to supportthe electrification project and installation of Positive Train Control that will allow for the future integration ofhigh-speed rail.
“This work, along with rail modernization already underway in the Bay Area, will support the advancement ofbringing high-speed rail to the region,” said Northern California Regional Director Ben Tripousis. “Awarding thiscontract will allow us to continue implementation of our 30-percent Small Business participation goals, whichprovide California businesses the opportunity to help deliver this transformative infrastructure project.”
The contract is estimated at $36 million for a three-year term, and Statements of Qualifications are due September14. The Authority is hosting a Pre-Bid Conference on August 12, at the Milton Marks Auditorium, 455 GoldenGate Avenue in San Francisco from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The event will allow interested firms to network andlearn about the details and requirements of the contract, as well as give them information on how to bid and theimportance of small business participation.
The San Francisco to San Jose Project Section is approximately 51 miles between the 4th and King St. Stationin San Francisco and Caltrain’s Tamien Station in San Jose. The San Jose to Merced Project Section isapproximately 84 miles and travels from the Caltrain San Jose Diridon Station to the western limit of theCentral Valley Wye at the intersection of Carlucci Road and Henry Miller Avenue, approximately nine milesnortheast of Los Banos in Merced County.
